I neglected to mention that on the drive back from the park my younger daughter picked up the library books. She found the book on deer, she found the page on antlers, and she proceeded to read it as I drove. I was learning things just by listening, but I also caught when she spoke the word describing the skin that covers the growing antlers. That was a question I would not answer for her about my pictures from the meadow.

At dinner I picked up the book of classifying California grasses. I filled the post-prandial atmosphere with genus and species pairs.
