another for the genealogists
May. 22nd, 2007 11:08 pmI sifted through two more boxes that I retrieved from my dad's residence and storage locker last year. I found the treasure trove. One of my dad's cousins once removed had done some genealogy even before my grandmother started, and while I was a kid my dad served as executor for another cousin once removed. Indications are that led to the transfer of a number of the documents and photos I have already found and scanned for my cousins.
But the best treasure of all in this was finding those sole copies of the photos on which grandma had actually written the names of the subjects. With those in hand the pieces of the puzzle start to fall into place about what other pictures might be who. And it's just in time, too.
My uncle has proposed a family reunion in the Berkshires in early July. My kids, their cousins, and their second cousins will all be able to see photos of two sets of their great great great grandparents, plus great great grandparents and a bunch of great great great uncles and aunts.
Somewhere out there I have third cousins who are probably also interested in such things. In the old days I would have no chance of sharing these things. As things are, a few keystrokes brought me to someone who only a month ago listed the grave of my great great grandmother.
