topography
Nov. 10th, 2007 10:13 amWe happened to be in Scotts Valley last night and found ourselves being buzzed by planes spraying for the apple moth again. That meant we returned home past the field HQ (the Hilton) of the state agency responsible for the spraying. Our neighborhood was all done Thursday, though we could hear them buzzing north of us after getting home.
A check of their map gives a clue as to what they did not manage to finish Thursday, and why. It gives the very strong impression that their pilot/plane/spraying efficiency is much higher over flat coastal land than it is over regions where topography constrains the low altitude maneuvering.
