school picture day
Sep. 14th, 2007 12:16 pmFor the second grader it's a whirlwind starting the previous evening. Make dinner, eat, present dessert while filling the tub. Offer to send dessert into the tub. Scrub, wet the hair, wash, rinse. That's all straightforward and easy.
Then comes the part where thanks go to aunt K and aunt A -- the creme rinse itself, and the technique for its use. We've had the former for a long time, but the latter was achieved only this summer while visiting Massachussetts. Comb and rinse and comb and rinse and comb and rinse. It's the water and the creme together that overcome the tangles without continuous screams.
Choose the clothes. Oops, there's a bit of ice cream on the chosen top, and no chance of washing. Scrub the spot to a photographically pristine perfection, and set up to dry. Then during bedtime toothbrushing, one final comb through to remove the tangles that formed during the initial drying. Sleep.
Wake up. Make breakfast (in today's case I actually shared mine with her). Pick out and pack an alternate bottom suitable for playground traversal.
She wanted a pony tail. Okay, a final combing to remove the night's tangles. Then gather and wrap and comb the ends one last time. She seemed very pleased as she said ``My hair looks all brusheded.'' She went to look at her reflection until it was time we had to walk out the door.
